Winter Wonderland!

December 2, 2008 | Newsroom, Residential

Winter has officially arrived! Now that you’ve unpacked your winter gear, its time to bundle up and enjoy the entertainment this thick blanket of snow brings to the Erie area!

Whether you prefer the relaxation of cross-country skiing & snowshoeing, the thrill of down-hill skiing & snowboarding, or the youthful excitement of sledding & tubing, you will find something for everyone at the local ski lodges. Peek N’ Peak Resort in Findley Lake, New York offers skiing for all ages and experience levels along with dining, lodging, fitness center, pool, hot tub, tanning, play-zone and arcade. Mountain View Ski Resort in Edinboro, PA and Wilderness Lodge in Wattsburg, PA also offer wonderful ski accommodations and great ways to spend a winter’s day.

The appeal of Presque Isle State Park extends year-round with the continued exploration of local wildlife through the winter months. Winter Bird Watching, Winter Wonderland Night Hikes, and Ice Fishing are all highlights of Presque Isle during this snowy winter season. Bundle up to join Presque Isle State Park naturalists for lessons on different bird species or let your senses experiencing the winter wonderland that is Presque Isle during a night hike. When winter chills Lake Erie to her freezing point, Presque Isle’s Misery Bay and Horseshoe Pond offer the thrill of ice fishing. After a fun filled morning of fishing, end your evening at Burch Farms Country Market in North East, PA, to enjoy a horse-drawn Apple Orchard Sleigh Ride complete with hot chocolate, spiced cider, cookies and more.

If you find that the cold temperatures and wet snow set a mood for indoor entertainment, there are a number of theatrical performances being held throughout the winter season. The Warner Theatre will be hosting The Lake Erie Ballet’s 50th Anniversary production of The Nutcracker throughout the month of December. If you prefer a comedic family favorite, The Erie Dance Conservatory will present How the Grinch Stole Christmas held in the Hirt Auditorium at the Blasco Library. The Warner Theatre and Erie Playhouse will be host to a number of performances throughout the holiday season.

In the spirit of giving, there are a number of local charities dedicated to bringing tidings of joy to less fortunate members of the Erie community this holiday season. Each $1 donation to the Second Harvest Food Bank is equal to $17 worth of food for those in need. With donations of food, money, and volunteer time, the Food Bank was able to distributed 7 million pounds of food in 2007 and hopes to offer just as much help in 2008. With a shiny new, unwrapped toy donation, the US Marine Corp ‘Toys For Tots’ wishes to deliver a message of hope to needy youngsters, motivating them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders. Help spread your own good will toward mankind this holiday season by donating what you can, whether it be toys, food, money, or even your time.

From our family to yours, have a truly Happy and Healthy Holiday Season!

Sincerely,
